Word documents, laid out — v0.96.0

✨ New — Word documents now show as documents. Open a .docx and you get its real layout — headings, bold and italic, bullet and numbered lists, tables, footnotes, and page breaks in the full reader — instead of a note saying the file can't be previewed. It renders on your device, so the file is never sent anywhere to be converted. Spreadsheets and presentations still show their summary; their text stays searchable either way. (Web)

PDFs, plain text and emails have their text pulled out on the way in, so you can search what's inside them straight away. ✨ New — Share a link, a quote, or any text into Thoute from any app. Tap Share in Safari, Mail or anywhere else, pick Thoute, and add a line of your own before it saves. The usual shorthand works here too: #tags to file it, and >tomorrow 9am to aim it at another day. It lands on your day and syncs to your other devices straight away, without opening the app. If you're offline or your vault is locked it's kept safely and appears the next time you open Thoute, so a thought is never lost. ✨ New — Share a bullet and everything under it out to any app. The block menu now has Share, which sends the lines as text to Messages, Mail, or wherever you like. Export is still there for saving a file. A published page also offers Share published link, which sends the reader's link so it arrives as a proper preview. (iOS)
✨ New — Right-click a bullet and choose Share to send it and everything under it to Mail, Messages, AirDrop or anywhere else. A published page can share its reader link the same way. (Mac)
⬆️ Improved — Tasks now show the time you gave them. Aiming a task at >fri 2pm always kept the time, but nothing on the row ever showed it. Events already did, and tasks now do too. Notes still stay quiet about it, since a note aimed at a day reads as a line on that day rather than an appointment.

🔧 Fixed — A task or note that mentions two or more linked blocks no longer shows a raw id in the Tasks lens, the Today banner, or anywhere else a line is drawn before its page has loaded. Long lines were being shortened in a way that cut through the second link, leaving something nothing could look up. Links now stay whole, and the words around them get the room the ids were taking. ⬆️ Improved — Days in Today are separated by a band now, not a thin line, and the band stays at the top of the screen while you read that day — so you can always tell which day you are looking at without scrolling back up. 🔧 Fixed — Exporting a vault with more than about thirty days of notes left most of it out of vault.json, the complete-record file in the archive. A 134-day vault recorded 30 days, and the Library was missing altogether — even though the readable Markdown files beside it were correct. Every page is now captured as it is written, so the record matches what you exported. (Web)
🔧 Fixed — Attachments on those same pages were skipped too, so the Markdown could link to a file the archive did not contain. Everything referenced is now included. (Web)

Open your archive without us — v0.89.0

✨ New — Your exported vault now opens in a web browser. Inside the .zip is a file called Open Vault.html — double-click it and your vault appears as an outline, with your days listed down the side. Nothing to install, no account, no internet, and nothing leaves your computer. The whole vault travels inside that one file, so it keeps working on any machine, years from now, whether or not Thoute is still around. (Web)

Exports keep everything — v0.88.0

🔧 Fixed — Vault exports were leaving content out of the Markdown files. Daily notes came through as a date heading with nothing under it, and any note sitting at the top level of your Library could go missing. Everything is now written out in the order you see it. (Web)
🔧 Fixed — An attachment on one of those missing notes was left out of the export entirely, and the summary still counted it as saved. Attachments are now collected from your whole vault rather than from whatever the page happened to render, and the count reflects what actually made it into the archive. (Web)
⬆️ Improved — Exports now include the full text of your documents. Previously a PDF, Word file, email or web clip was saved with only the first couple of thousand characters of its text, so the archive held the file but not its contents. The complete text now lands in an extracted folder, which means you can search inside your documents with nothing but the export. (Web)

Weather goes to the live weather feed; anything else current goes to a web search; anything about your own notes searches your vault. Ask for conditions anywhere — "what’s the weather in Healdsburg right now", "will it rain in Iowa City this week" — and it reads a live weather feed rather than searching the web, so you get an actual observation with the time it was taken instead of whatever a weather page happened to say when it was last crawled. ⬆️ Improved — When Thoute searches the web for you — in Ask, or in an automation — it now reads about ten sources instead of three or four, cites them by number, and names the publication. More cross-checking, and you can see what it read.
⬆️ Improved — Figures that came from a web page now say when that page was last seen: "67°F at 10:50 AM on September 2" rather than a bare number presented as current. Search results are only as fresh as the last time the page was crawled, and a stale reading should look stale. Live values like weather will get a dedicated data source in a future update.

🔧 Fixed — Automations that look something up now check more than one source and say where their answer came from. Asking for the temperature in Healdsburg returned 68 degrees from a single stale page when other sources said 52; it now reads several, leads with the most recent, names the source, and tells you when they disagree rather than picking one and sounding certain.
⬆️ Improved — Every result a web-searching automation writes now records the searches behind it, so a reading you doubt can be traced instead of just doubted.

Editing an automation in place — v0.84.0

Each line — what it reads, what it does, where it writes — opens underneath itself, so you can see the rest of the recipe while you change one part of it. Asking for the current temperature used to be answered from what the model already knew, which sounds just as confident and can be months stale. Automations that run while Thoute is closed — v0.83.0

Ask for the temperature in Iowa City every hour for twelve hours, shut your laptop, and come back to twelve readings genuinely taken an hour apart, sitting under the line you started from. The same fix protects iOS, which would have hit the identical wall on its next fresh install. A cleanup step meant for pages that shared a name was matching every day against every other day, because days no longer carry names, and it was removing them from the vault index.
