Frequently asked questions

How do I get access?

Thoute is in private beta. Request an invite at app.thoute.com. You'll get an invite code by email when a spot opens.

How much does it cost?

The beta is free. Pricing for the paid tier will be announced before the beta ends. We'll grandfather beta users on favorable terms.

Is Thoute a Notion competitor?

No. Notion is a database with a document interface. Thoute is an outliner — every piece of information is a bullet, and the structure is fluid. The closest comparisons are Workflowy, Roam, and Tana.

Why not just use Workflowy or Roam?

We use them too. Thoute's bet is on three things they don't combine: end-to-end encryption by default, task management as a first-class block type, and multiple lenses (flat outline, tags, graph, attachments) over the same data.

What platforms?

Mobile web works but is rough; native apps are the better mobile experience once they ship.

Is my data really encrypted?

Yes. See Privacy for the details — passphrase-derived key, AES-GCM, zero-knowledge server.

What happens if I forget my passphrase?

Your data is unrecoverable. There is no reset. Use a password manager.

What if Thoute goes away?

Export at any time via Cmd+Shift+E — Markdown, OPML, Plain Text, or Formatted HTML. Your data is yours; you can take it elsewhere.

Is there an API?

Not yet. The bullet-level data model is stable enough that an API is on the roadmap.

Where do I report bugs or request features?

The in-app feedback widget — bottom-right corner, even on mobile.

Who's behind Thoute?
